I am also not so sure about the message here: its just a combination of different symbols for leavetaking and loss. The birds flying away, the ship sets sails a or beloved person leaving. The mask was included to hint at merrier times at ballrooms full of dancing people and laughter.
But maybe i got an overdose of reading all that Favole artwork books lately and just had to do something to get all the impressions out of my head and into something which should resemble artwork
